| | | | We were honored to welcome Superintendent Dr. Maria Navarro to Jenifer Elementary School as we prepare for an exciting new school year. During her visit, Dr. Navarro and I met as she took the time out of her day to personally welcome me to Charles County Public Schools and to offer her full support as the school community embarks on this new chapter. Our discussion focused on ensuring that students and staff have the resources and support they need to thrive throughout the year.
Dr. Navarro expressed her deep commitment to Jenifer Elementary and its continued success. She affirmed the school’s strong standing within the district and emphasized the importance of maintaining high expectations, fostering collaboration, and prioritizing student achievement. Her visit underscored the district’s investment in our school community and inspired confidence as we prepare to welcome students back to a year full of learning, growth, and opportunity. | | Together we are making a difference in a child’s life! Warm regards, Dr. LaZedrick Jemison,
Proud Principal of Jenifer Elementary School | | | | | | As we prepare for a successful school year, there are several things' parents can do to ensure their child is ready to thrive from day one. Establishing a consistent routine at home is one of the most important steps. Begin adjusting bedtime and wake-up schedules at least a week before school starts so that your child is well-rested and ready to learn. Encourage regular reading at home and talk with your child about what to expect when school begins. These small but powerful habits help ease the transition and build a sense of comfort and confidence.
Another helpful step is making sure all school materials and supplies are ready to go. Label items clearly with your child’s name and pack their backpack together so they feel involved and prepared. If your child is new to the school or has anxiety about returning, take time to visit the campus or talk about the school day to build excitement. Most importantly, maintain open communication—encourage your child to express how they’re feeling about going back to school and reassure them that their teachers and school staff are there to support them every step of the way. Your partnership is key to a strong start! | | | | As we prepare for the new school year, please ensure your child is up to date on all required immunizations before the first day of school. To verify your child’s immunization status, you can:
Be sure to review Maryland’s school-required immunizations to confirm your child meets all current requirements. Keeping these records current helps us ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for all students.
Families can learn more about immunization requirements at Vaccination Requirements - Charles County Public Schools
Thank you for your attention to this important matter! | | | On Monday, August 25, Jenifer Elementary staff will be ready to help students find their classrooms. Doors open at 9:15 a.m., and school officially begins at 9:30 a.m.
To ensure a safe and routine-focused start to the school year, parents/guardians may not walk children to classrooms on the first day of school.
Exceptions: Parent or guardian of kindergarten students and students new to Jenifer Elementary may enter the lobby and will be greeted by a staff member on this day.
For all other students (Grades 1-5): Please say goodbye at the front door. Our staff will be available inside to help your child find their classroom. | | | | Families can access ParentVue, the secure Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) platform that provides valuable information about your child’s education. With a ParentVue account, you can view your child’s attendance, report cards, class schedules, and school information. ParentVue helps keep you informed and engaged while serving as an additional communication tool between home and school.
If you have been locked out of your ParentVue or StudentVue account, please email parentvue@ccboe.com for support.
Your child’s StudentVue username is their six-digit student ID number. In ParentVue, this ID number can be found under your child’s photo when accessed through a web browser or in the ID Card section of the mobile app. Families can find additional information at ParentVUE Account Overview - Charles County Public Schools
Let’s work together to ensure every Jenifer Patriot is set up for success! | | | According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), students who eat breakfast at school are more likely to have better attendance, fewer missed days, and improved test scores. Charles County Public Schools is committed to supporting student success by offering nutritious meals each day.
Students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals can receive both breakfast and lunch at no cost. To continue these benefits, families must complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application at the beginning of each school year. Approved applications may also make students eligible for additional support and resources.
Students who qualified last school year will continue to receive meals. To avoid any disruption in benefits, new families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
Visit the Free and Reduced-Price Meals webpage at HOME - Charles County Public Schools to access the application and view eligibility criteria. A healthy start leads to a strong finish—apply today! | | | | We are excited to invite all Jenifer Elementary families to join us for Popsicles with the Principal on Friday, August 8th! This fun and informal event is a great way to cool off from the summer heat while connecting with the leadership team. This special event will feature games, free haircuts, school supplies, and other great giveaways provided by our generous community partners.
Let’s come together as a school community to connect with one another and get energized for the school year ahead. We hope to see many smiling faces as we celebrate the start of a fantastic year at Jenifer Elementary. Together we can make it a memorable day for our STARS! | | | | As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we are committed to ensuring that Jenifer Elementary is a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, especially our SOAR students. The SOAR program is designed to support students identified as having autism by providing a structured, supportive learning space tailored to their unique needs. Creating a calm and familiar environment from the start is one of the ways we can help ease the transition back to school.
To support this effort, we are offering SOAR families the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher prior to the first day of school. Families are invited to join us on either Tuesday, August 20th from 3:00–4:30 PM or Wednesday, August 21st from 3:00–4:30 PM. The session on August 20th will be designed with reduced sensory input to create a more comfortable experience for students who may be sensitive to noise, lighting, or crowds. We look forward to partnering with families to ensure a smooth and positive start to the school year for our SOAR students. | | | Families will receive an email with their child’s classroom teacher assignment after 4:30 PM on Wednesday, August 20. We are continuing to register new students, so class rosters will be finalized at that time.
At Jenifer Elementary, we believe in the power of collaboration. Our teachers work in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), where they meet regularly to plan, reflect, and support one another. This team-based approach ensures that every student benefits from the collective expertise of all teachers at each grade level. Every member of our teaching staff is highly trained and selected for their commitment to excellence and student success.
