Attendance Matters

Did you know that children can suffer academically if they miss just 10% of the school year? That is only 18 days for the entire year, or 2-3 days a month. Nationwide, as many as 7.5 million students miss 10% of the school year! That adds up to 135 million days of missed school and missed opportunities! Research shows that students fall behind academically when they miss so many days of school.

This year at Jenifer Elementary School we are addressing attendance with a renewed emphasis on having all children get to school on time every day! Absences, whether excused or unexcused, add up and result in lost valuable instructional time for all children in Kindergarten through 12th grade.

While there will be times when children are sick and need to stay home, this year I would like for us to work together as a community to get all of our children to school on time every day!
